Clear Pulpit

A possible new trend in preaching that began 15 to 20 years ago is the reduction of physical obstructions between the speaker and the congregation.

The clear pulpit could be said to be the start of this. Perhaps it was an idea driven by fashion, perhaps it was an intentional way to break down the barrier between speaker and people listening. In any case the clear pulpit was a major step. 

Historically the church has had many barriers between the people and the clergy. Prior to the reformation, services carried out in Latin prevented church goers even understanding the service. Gradually over several hundred years, the preacher got closer and closer to the congregation. Portable wooden lecterns were a major step, then the advent of the clear pulpit. At last there was nothing to hide behind! Our Arc2 pulpit goes one step further than the clear pulpit. It removes the clear panel altogether. A slim stem is all that lies between the sermon giver and congregation. Many see this as an advancement. 

It also has other advantages. At 19lbs or 8.5kg, it is less than half the weight of a regular acrylic pulpit. you can pick it up with one hand and if you have the table you can pick that up with the other hand. It certainly allows the stage to get set up or cleared quickly. In comparison, an acrylic version normally requires at least 2 people to move safely.
